Hello Friends,

As a theatre company, with a family of talented artists and theatre practitioners, nothing has been more difficult than to have empty seats in our house, a dark stage, and the heartbreaking feeling of not being able to bring our stories to life for you, our extended family.

While we head into a long weekend - and one that is so associated with families coming together - I cannot help but feel an unusual but unique kinship with you. Even though we're not connecting as we once were, we are, ironically, even more connected because of the situation we're all living through together.

I want to take a moment and thank all of you who have had the ability to generously donate the cost of your tickets back to the theatre, or to use them towards a gift certificate for next year. I know that this time is presenting challenges for everyone in our city, and we truly appreciate your support. I also want to acknowledge the generosity of spirit of those who have reached out to myself, our staff, and our artists to offer your compassion and understanding. Every person at Theatre Calgary truly appreciates your goodwill, it has meant the world to us.

Today, I am excited to share with you that in the coming days we will be able to reveal some exciting initiatives that we've been working on with our community of talented artists. We know that these will help bring some light, levity, and artistry to your world, and I look forward to talking to you about them in the very near future.

In the meantime, I like to think of the words of the brilliant philosopher and poet, Ralph Waldo Emerson: "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." We will survive this, and we will rise as a city to extraordinary heights.

On behalf of everyone at Theatre Calgary, know that we miss you,and that we miss sharing our art with you. Wishing you and yours good health, safety, and much love in these trying times.
