Announcing our new Associate Artistic Director

Theatre Calgary is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Associate Artistic Director, Anna Cummer.

Working alongside Artistic Director Stafford Arima, Cummer will help support the artistic vision and initiatives of the theatre, including season planning, new play development, artist engagement programs, and community outreach.

"I’m thrilled to be joining the TC team. Theatre Calgary has shaped me as an artist for the 10 years I have called this wonderful city home," says Cummer. "Now I look forward to learning, collaborating and connecting with our community on a deeper level in this new role.”

An actor and playwright, Cummer has performed across Canada at The Vancouver Playhouse, The Arts Club, Bard on the Beach, Alberta Theatre Projects, Vertigo Theatre, Persephone Theatre, and the National Arts Centre. Her acting credits at Theatre Calgary include Admissions, A Christmas Carol, Noises Off, The Shoplifters, and Pride and Prejudice. Her plays have been produced locally by The Shakespeare Company, Vertigo Theatre, and Alberta Theatre Projects. Anna works in voice over as well as in film and television as an actor and puppeteer.

"Anna brings a wealth of experience from a variety of different viewpoints of theatre creation," says Artistic Director Stafford Arima. "Her unique ideas will be an invigorating addition to the Theatre Calgary team. I am excited for the creative energy she will bring to our entire organization."

Born in Singapore, Cummer spent half of her adolescence in Southeast Asia and the other half in Saskatoon, SK. She finished high school in Hong Kong at the French International School and studied drama in the UK where she completed a Master of Arts Degree in Advanced Theatre Practice at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She returned to Canada in 2001, and moved to Calgary in 2012, where she resides with her husband and two children.
