Below is a list of frequently asked questions about our upcoming Page to Stage New Works Festival.  This page will be updated regularly, so please check back often.

Production Information

  • What is an Online Reading?

An online reading is different than live (or filmed) theatre. The three play readings will take place on Zoom, and will feature each actor reading the script from a safe location.

The biggest difference between an online reading and an in-person reading is that the actors are on your screen instead of reading the script from behind a music stand in front of you in our rehearsal hall.

All three online readings will be happening live. You will only have one chance to hear these new works read out loud!

  • Are all three readings performed live?

Yes, all three online readings will be performed live via Zoom.

You will only have one chance to hear each of these new works read out loud!  The schedule is as follows:

Bollywood Basement Boutique - Saturday, March 20, 3:00pm
    Awowakii - Saturday, March 20, 7:30pm
Agápi sti Fury - Sunday, March 21, 3:00pm

  • How long are the online readings?

The running time for all three performed readings will be determined closer to the online reading date of March 20-21.

Our early estimates are between 75-120 minutes each (including the post-reading talkback).

  • Can I watch these readings in another language?

No, unfortunately, the readings will only be performed in English.

  • Will these readings offer closed captioning or ASL interpretation?

We are looking into this possibility, but nothing is confirmed as of yet.

Please check back closer to the festival date of March 20-21 for updated information.

  • Will these readings offer Described Video?

Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to offer described video for these online readings.

  • Can I purchase a permanent copy of these readings on Blu-ray/DVD or digital download?

No, unfortunately Theatre Calgary will not be offering purchase of these readings by way of Blu-ray/DVD or digital download at this time.

They will be read online once each during the festival, over the period of March 20-21, 2021.

Technical Information & Troubleshooting

  • What is Zoom?

Zoom is a cloud-based video communications application that allows you to set up virtual video and audio conferencing, webinars, live chats, screen-sharing, and other collaborative capabilities.

Theatre Calgary's Page To Stage New Works Festival will be using Zoom to present our three online readings on March 20th and 21st.  These readings will only be offered via the Zoom application and format.

  • Do I need a separate Zoom account to view the online readings?

As you will be attending the online reading(s) as a view, a Zoom account is not required. Theatre Calgary will provide you with a unique Zoom link approximately one (1) hour before the scheduled reading.  Through this link, you can join as a participant/viewer without creating an account.

However, while not required, if you are interested in creating a Zoom account, you may do so here. Basic Zoom accounts are free of charge.

  • Where can I download Zoom?

You can download the latest version of Zoom from the application's Download Centre. For additional information about downloading and installing Zoom, please click here.

  • How do I join the Zoom online reading?

A unique link to the online reading(s) will be send to you via email approximately one (1) hour before the reading is scheduled to start.  To join, please click the meeting link. This will open Zoom and allow you to view the reading. If connecting prior to the start time, you will be placed in a virtual waiting room until the reading starts.

It is recommended that you download and install the Zoom application prior to the scheduled online reading to ensure that you are able to access the online reading as expected.

  • Zoom often uses webcams and microphones. Do I need these to access the online reading(s)?

No.  While traditionally, a webcam and microphone is required to participate in Zoom meetings, they are not required to watch the online reading(s) throughout the Page To Stage New Works Festival.  Theatre Calgary will be using the webinar format where only the actors (or panel) will be visible during the online reading.

  • What if I lose connection to the internet while watching the performance?

It is important to ensure that you have a reliable internet connection before you start watching the online readings as Theatre Calgary takes no responsibility for signal interruption due to inadequate internet connection.

  • The online reading is lagging, delaying, skipping, or audio and video are out of sync.

Normally, issues such as these are due to internet and/or Wi-Fi connection issues.

If you are on a Wi-Fi connection, we recommend that you sit as close to your Wi-Fi router as possible, to ensure a strong signal.   If you are on a computer or laptop, we recommend connecting directly to your modem via an Ethernet cable: this will ensure that you are getting the strongest connection, which will greatly reduce interruptions.

  • I need additional technical assistance.

Please call our Audience Services team at 403.294.7447, Daily, 9 a.m to 5 p.m. MST.
